Grants and Contracts

In the period between July 1, 2019 and October 30, 2019, HES and HES Extension faculty and staff were principal investigators or project directors on a total of 45 grant proposals submitted to external funding agencies, totaling $23,680,990. During this same time, HES and HES Extension received 32 grant awards totaling $6,720,821.

Awards, Accomplishments and Activities

Dr. Jo Britt-Rankin, Associate Dean for HES Extension and Extension Professor, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, was named the Chair Elect/Vice Chair of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities Board on Human Sciences at the annual meeting of APLU-BOHS November, 2019.

Elena Doctor, Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, MU Extension: Stay Strong, Stay Healthy, received certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association to become a Certified Special Population Specialist.

Dr. Lu Fan, Assistant Professor in Personal Financial Planning, with Han Na Lim, received the 2019 © Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education® Symposium Research Paper Award at the symposium held November 19-21 in Portland, OR.

John Qualy, chair of the Dean’s Strategic Leadership Council for HES, is a 2019 recipient of a prestigious Mizzou Faculty-Alumni Award. These awards recognize distinguished alumni not only for their professional achievements but also for their service to Mizzou, emphasizing the critical role that alumni play in promoting the university. Mr. Qualy received the award on November 15, 2019 at the annual awards ceremony in Columbia, MO.

Dr. Antoinette Landor, Assistant Professor in Human Development and Family Science, has been invited for talks around campus and the community as a Guest Researcher–discussion leader hosted by Ragtag Cinema, Columbia, MO for the Passport Series: Genesis, October 2019, as well as an invited panel member on Supporting Underrepresented Students in the Academy, Graduate Scholars of Excellence Program at MU, and in July 2019 #TeamLightSkin vs #TeamDarkSkin: How Colorism Influences Families, Relationships, and our Health, Undergraduate Summer Research Program, Hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research at MU.

THE PLUG

The College of Human Environmental Sciences hosted The Plug event on November 12, 2019 in Gwynn Lounge. The Plug is a mixer and networking event to foster relationships and inclusivity for underrepresented students and HES Faculty/Staff. About 35 were in attendance. The event was coordinated by Dr. Christine Woods, Inclusivity and Diversity Fellow in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Dr. Woods is an Assistant Teaching Professor and the BSW Program Director in the School of Social Work. Look for other events throughout the year.
