Mackenzie Mattix is headed to the Big Apple!

Posted: May 15, 2017

Mackenzie Mattix is headed to New York City Fall 2017 to rub elbows with industry leaders during New York Fashion Week.

Mattix, who is a senior from Branson, Mo., says, "Going to New York Fashion Week has been one of my main goals ever since I started in the TAM program. I cannot believe I will be attending so early on in my life. I can’t express how incredibly grateful I am. It is definitely a dream come true for me."

The Department of Textile & Apparel Management, MU Licensing & Trademarks, and the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) have partnered to sponsor the New York Fashion Week Competition, which Mattix won. Eligible students were asked to complete an application and submit a one-page essay on how the opportunity to attend NYFW fits with their career goals. They were also asked to provide a resume. In addition to participating in NYFW Mattix is expected to write an article and share photos about her experience.

Dr. Pamela Norum, Chair of the Department of Textile and Apparel Management, writes "This is the first year of the NYFW competition, and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for one of our TAM students. Mackenzie is a highly motivated student, and driven to succeed. She will make the most of this experience, and be a great representative of the department."

CLC, in conjunction with IMG Fashion, has developed an "insiders" opportunity for their partner institutions. IMG Fashion has put together a one day experience that includes access to Fall 2017 Fashion Week shows, an invitation to a fashion expert panel discussion to see what goes on behind the scenes within the industry, an insider’s look into a design studio, a retail experience, and a private networking dinner. Dean Sandy Rikoon says, "This is such a terrific opportunity for Mackenzie. I’ve always said that HES students are the best, and she deserves every bit of credit for rising to the top of a stellar cohort of TAM applicants."

Travel is paid for by MU Licensing & Trademarks. Fashion Week 2017 is scheduled for September 7-15, 2017.

Congratulations Mackenzie Mattix! MIZ+HES=Impact! ROAR!
