College of Human Environmental Sciences

Veta Bird Adams Scholarship

An endowment was established in honor of Veta Adams, a member of the faculty for twenty years, by her family, friends and colleagues. The award provides scholarships for students who show professional potential and who earn a part of their college expenses. The award is intended for the special deserving student who may not meet guidelines for other awards.

Virginia Hultz Booth Memorial Fund in Human Environmental Sciences

This scholarship is for students who made at least average grades in high school, are in need of financial assistance and are of good moral character. Preference shall be given, but not limited, to females living in Boone County who are studying or majoring in Human Environmental Sciences.  This scholarship was established by a bequest of Jennie M. Booth.

Campbell-Harrison Scholarship

Fulltime undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the College of Human Environmental Sciences are eligible for this scholarship. Preference is given to Campbell-Harrison alumni and their descendants.  The scholarship was established from the proceeds of the sale of the Campbell-Harrison Cooperative House and the Campbell-Harrison Alumni.

Marilyn W. Caselman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students in Human Environmental Sciences.  It was established by friends and family of Marilyn Caselman who was a faculty member in Human Environmental Sciences.

Marjorie A. Chollett Memorial Scholarship

Marjorie A. Chollett established this scholarship in her will. Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing degrees in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Ada Mae Woodruff Clough Endowment in Human Environmental Sciences

This scholarship was established by Ada Mae Woodruff Clough through a pooled income fund and shall be made to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Human Environmental Sciences who have demonstrated financial need. This scholarship shall not be available to students participating in Intercollegiate Athletics.

Elsie Park Duncan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student pursuing a degree in Human Environmental Sciences.  This scholarship was established by Elsie Park Duncan and her niece, Mrs. Virginia S. Miller.

Family and Consumer Sciences Education Scholarship

The Home Economics Education Faculty and the Teachers of Home Economics Club established this scholarship in 1983.  The scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education program.

 

4-H Leadership Scholarship in the College of Human Environmental Sciences

 

4-H prepares young people to be leaders in their club, their communities, state and nation.  Therefore, this scholarship was established by alumni and friends for freshman students, who have participated in the Missouri State 4-H Council or have been involved in other 4-H leadership activities.

Flo Dickey Funk Scholarship

Established in memory of Mrs. Funk by her husband, Dr. Ernest Funk.  This scholarship is awarded to a student in Human Environmental Sciences who is in need of financial assistance.

Harold Bailey Gallison Sr. and Sharilyn L.L. Gallison Scholarship

This scholarship is given to students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.  It was established by Mr. and Mrs. Gallison, both graduates of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Earnest L. Garner Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to Missouri residents who are from Carl Junction, Missouri, and enrolled in Agriculture; Veterinary Medicine; or Human Environmental Sciences.  If there is no suitable applicant from Carl Junction, the scholarship is available to any student from Jasper County. Preference is given to a veteran or student from a large family.  This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Mr. Garner.

Pauline Gillette Garrett Award

Upon Dr. Garrett's retirement from the Home Economics Education faculty, professional colleagues, friends, and students established a scholarship fund in her name. The scholarship is awarded with preference given to those preparing to teach Family and Consumer Sciences.

Adella Ginter Scholarship

This award goes to a junior in the College who shows professional potential as evidenced by leadership and scholarship.  The scholarship was established by family, friends, and colleagues of Adella Ginter, a former faculty member.

 

Gordon Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in the Colleges of Agriculture, Human Environmental Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine who are graduates of a high school in either Boone County or Callaway County in the State of Missouri.

Cecil I. and Orrine Z. Gregory Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students in Rural Sociology, Human Environmental Sciences, Communications, Extension or a combination of these areas. Preference is given to those demonstrating professional potential. Financial need is considered, but is not a determining factor. It is awarded to recipients in Human Environmental Sciences in even-numbered years.  Preference is given to graduate students.  This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Gregory, former faculty members.

Walter E. Haas Memorial Scholarship

Established through a gift from Mary Haas in her husband's memory, this award is for a sophomore in the College of Human Environmental Sciences who has a high cumulative grade point average and is enrolled full-time. The scholarship may be maintained a second or third year while an undergraduate.

G. Maxene Harris Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students in the Departments of Architectural Studies, Human Development & Family Studies, Nutritional Sciences, Personal Financial Planning, Textile and Apparel Management and the Program of Family and Consumer Sciences. Recipients shall be enrolled in the Intensive Writing Program or shall have completed the program. Preference given to female students. Selection based on merit and academic performance, financial need shall not be a consideration. Recipients expected to gain additional communication skills.

Florence Harrison Scholarship

Students who are in need of financial assistance and show professional promise are eligible for this award.  Florence Harrison was a former Director of Home Economics.  Her friends and colleagues honored her by establishing this scholarship.

George and Eliza Hechler Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to outstanding seniors ranking in the upper half of their class.  Recipients must be residents of Chariton County, Missouri, enrolled in Agriculture, Engineering or Human Environmental Sciences.

W.R. Hechler Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to juniors, who graduated from a Chariton County high school, and major in Agriculture, Engineering, Human Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife, Veterinary Medicine or Education, preparing to teach in one of the above areas.  Mr. Hechler established the scholarship.

Adeline M. Hoffman Award

Adeline Hoffman was a faculty member in Human Environmental Sciences who established this scholarship to provide awards to graduate students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, or to students planning to enter graduate school.

Human Environmental Sciences Alumni Board Leaders Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to freshmen students who have a strong academic potential and exhibited leadership qualities in high school, and demonstrate financial need.  It was established by alumni and friends of the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Human Environmental Sciences Senior Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a senior student in Human Environmental Sciences in financial need and in recognition of overall activities and academic achievement.  Preference is given to a student working his/her way through school.  Human Environmental Sciences seniors of 1993 began the scholarship and it became endowed in 1997 through the hard work of ensuing classes.

Dorothy Johnson Scholarship

Given to a student pursuing a degree in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, this scholarship was established by a bequest from Dorothy Johnson, an HES graduate.

Mary L. Johnson Scholarship

This is awarded on the basis of professional potential to a student in Social Science, Extension Service, Human Environmental Sciences, Communications, or in combination with another area. Consideration is given to financial need. Preference is given to graduate students.  Friends of Mary Lucille Johnson established this scholarship.

Letha Knight Jopling Scholarship

Given to a student pursuing a degree in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, this scholarship was established by Mrs. Jopling's husband, Harvey M. Jopling, as a tribute to his wife.

Amy Kelly Scholarship

This award goes to worthy junior or senior students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences with preference to applicants considering Extension as a profession. The Missouri Association of Family and Community Education established the fund in recognition of Miss Kelly's years of dedicated leadership in University Extension work.

Vera E. Nielsen Langford Scholarship

The Vera E. Neilsen Langford Scholarship is for scholarship awards to Human Environmental Sciences students who are majoring in the departments found in the College.  The fund was established by Mr. Wilbur H. Langford in honor of his wife.

Nancy and Bill Laurie Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded based on both financial need and academic achievement. Equal emphasis shall be placed on the financial needs of a student as well as the academic achievements of the student in high school, and the potential for academic success in college. The recipients shall be graduates of a high school in the State of Missouri. It is the donor’s wishes that preference be given to students who are long-time residents of the State of Missouri.

Martha Jo Martin Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students in Human Environmental Sciences who exhibit balance in academic achievement, service, and other life dimensions, with special consideration given to leadership potential.  This scholarship was established by a bequest from Martha Jo Martin, her husband, friends, and colleagues.

 

Martin-Quilling Graduate Fellowship in Human Environmental Sciences

A group of alumni from the College of Human Environmental Sciences and Home Economics Education established this scholarship. These graduates attribute their successes and accomplishments to the mentoring of Dr. Betty Martin and Dr. Joan Quilling. This scholarship will assist the college in attracting top-flight graduate students to programs that have produced outstanding professional leaders, such as those represented by the donors who are making this fund possible. The awards shall be made to full-time graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Marian Couranz Miller Scholarship in Human Environmental Sciences

Her husband and children endowed this scholarship as a birthday present to Mrs. Miller. It is given to students in Human Environmental Sciences who have shown financial need and who are making satisfactory academic progress.

Missouri Farm Bureau Scholarship

Awarded to sophomores, juniors or seniors in Agriculture or Human Environmental Sciences.  The recipients shall be children of families holding current Farm Bureau membership or shall hold a membership in their own names.  The Missouri Farm Bureau Federation established this scholarship.

Mitchell-Decker Junior Leadership Scholarship

For Human Environmental Sciences students entering their junior year, this scholarship is awarded to a student showing professional potential as evidenced by leadership and scholarship. The scholarship was established by Kate King, a graduate of the College, in honor of her father, Keith Mitchell.

Missouri Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship

Awarded to two second-semester juniors majoring in Human Environmental Sciences; recipients are selected from applicants in four year colleges throughout the state. Separate application required.

Virginia Norris Scholarship

Based on scholastic ability, high moral character and financial need, this award is given to a full-time student in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources or Human Environmental Sciences who is from Shelby County, Missouri, or who attended a Shelby County high school.  The scholarship was established by the Shelby County Extension Homemakers Council in honor of Dr. Norris.

Georgiann Dickey Partridge Scholarship

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated extreme financial need and acceptable scholarship achievement.  Robert D. Partridge established the scholarship in memory of his wife, Georgiann, who was a graduate of Human Environmental Sciences.

Phi Upsilon Omicron Collegiate Scholarships

Phi Upsilon Omicron, Rho Collegiate Chapter, and various donors endowed this scholarship to provide awards to students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences who are members of Phi Upsilon Omicron. Two annual awards are given: the Treva Carpenter Kintner Outstanding Student Award for the student with the highest grade point average; and the Marilyn Caselman Outstanding Service Award for the student who has shown outstanding leadership and service to the chapter.

Phi Upsilon Omicron/Treva Kintner Student Scholarship

The Rho Alumni Chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron established this scholarship in honor of Treva Kintner, a former faculty member in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.  Mrs. Kintner was a collegiate Phi Upsilon Omicron Advisor and active in both the local alumni chapter and nationally.  The award is provided to assist and encourage a mature student to return to school.  The recipient shall be accepted by the College of Human Environmental Sciences who has completed 60 semester hours or more, 30 years or older, although a younger candidate will be considered if other criteria are met.  Priority shall be given to a student who is pursuing an undergraduate degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and who has demonstrated financial need.  Selected recipient does not have to be a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron.

Marion K. and Vernon W. Piper Distinguished Doctoral Fellowship

Mr. Vernon W. Piper established the fellowship in memory of his wife, Marion, who was an instructor in the School of Home Economics during the years when the program was growing in primacy and complexity, and who retained a lifelong interest in the growing sophistication of the vibrant programs that evolved into the contemporary College of Human Environmental Sciences.  It also recognizes the achievements of Vernon Piper, who spent his freshman year at Mizzou, and whose interest in the skills developed in human sciences programs are evident in the way he conducts his life.  The endowment will permit the attraction of top-flight doctoral students, is a celebration of the values of the Pipers, as well as the skills that contributed to the family and business successes of Marion and Vernon Piper.  Students shall be pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the following areas:  Architectural Studies, Nutritional Sciences, Personal Financial Planning, Textile and Apparel Management, Human Development and Family Studies.

Ream-McClure Freshman Scholarship in Human Environmental Sciences

This scholarship is for a beginning freshman based on scholarship, leadership, character and need. Ray C. and Jean Ream McClure, graduates of the University of Missouri-Columbia, give it.

Bea Litherland Smith Scholarship

The Bea Litherland Smith Scholarship was initially endowed by Stephen B. Smith to honor his wife and to recognize in perpetuity the delight in students that is an integral part of their lives. Students, colleagues and friends have subsequently chosen to augment the fund.

Dr. Bea Smith, who served as Dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences from 1977 to 2001 and led MU's human sciences programs through an era of profound growth and change, believes deeply in the importance of student leadership opportunities. She believes they are important complements to academic instruction in the development of effective, well-rounded professionals. The scholarship is awarded to junior classification students who have shown early leadership promise in student organizations or activities aligned with the College of Human Environmental Sciences. These organizations and/or activities may either relate to individual departments within the College or they may be organizations or activities under College-wide sponsorship.

Eunice Smith Scholarship

Mrs. Smith graduated from the University of Missouri in 1935 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education. She taught for several years. She hopes students in need will have a chance for higher education. As a person who has lived through challenges in attending college, she hopes to ease a little of the burden of HES Students who are hardworking and dedicated to their education. Her annual scholarship is given to two deserving students each year.

Eunice Bower Smith Undergraduate Scholarship in Human Environmental Sciences

This scholarship was established to qualify for, and participate in, the University of Missouri 2004-2005 Scholarship Matching Funds Program. Awards shall be made to undergraduate students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Selected recipients must be Missouri residents and have a demonstrated financial need.

Jerry Tiemann Memorial Scholarship

This award was provided by Kaye Tiemann, a graduate of the College, in memory of her husband, Jerry. Students must have a 3.0 or better grade point average and participate in extracurricular activities designed to enhance the students' total education. Financial need is considered but is not the primary determining factor.

Charles Louis and Thelma Ferrell Van Buren Scholarship

Financial need is the primary determinant in the selection of the recipient who shows satisfactory academic performance.  First consideration is given to juniors or seniors, although graduate students may be considered.  The scholarship is awarded to students in Agriculture and Human Environmental Sciences.  Mrs. Van Buren established the scholarship on behalf of herself and her deceased husband.

Tom and Carolyn Wiley Scholarship

Family and friends of Tom and Carolyn Wiley established the Tom and Carolyn Wiley Scholarship for students completing their junior year in the College of Human Environmental Sciences in the following areas: Architectural Studies, Human Development and Family Studies (a child life major), and Textile and Apparel Management. The award shall be rotated among the three departments, based on demonstrated financial need, with no consideration given to grade point average. Preference is given to students who participate in extra-curricular activities.

Gladys Wyckoff Human Environmental Sciences Scholarship

This is awarded to full-time student(s) in Human Environmental Sciences.  The scholarship was established by a bequest of Gladys Wyckoff.

 

Department of Architectural Studies

Bernice Bienenstock Scholarship

The Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library Scholarship awards two $500 scholarships annually to students pursuing home or office furnishing related studies that exhibit financial need and have at least one semester of coursework to complete before graduation. Selection of recipients is based on financial need and student performance in the studio sequence; no separate application is required.

Tom and Winnie Davis Endowment Fund

This scholarship will provide awards undergraduate students in the Colleges of Education, Human Environmental Sciences and/or Engineering and will be rotated among the Colleges or divided and awards made in each College. Preference shall be given to incoming freshman and/or transfer students in the College of Education to majors in critical needs area; in the College of Engineering to students majoring in Industrial Engineering; and in the College of Human Environmental Sciences to students majoring in Architectural Studies. Selected recipients must be Missouri residents and have a demonstrated financial need.

Mary Harpster Dysart College of Human Environmental Sciences Scholarship

This scholarship is given to an undergraduate Architectural Studies or Textile and Apparel Management student who is a Missouri resident with at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.

Carl Christian Friedrich, Nevada Susan Friedrich/Dorothy Friedrich Rose Scholarship

This scholarship is given to an Architectural Studies student for best project generated from the Interior Design Studio Sequence. Dorothy Rose established this scholarship, in honor of her parents.

Richard Helmick Design with Digital Media Graduate Student Award

This fund was endowed by Richard Helmick, alumni and friends to honor Mr. Helmick’s years as an instructor upon his retirement from the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Mr. Helmick worked tirelessly to enhance computing and design education in the Department of Architectural Studies. It is awarded to entering graduate students enrolling in the Design with Digital Media program.

Gary Hennigh Distinguished Senior Awards

Awarded to a senior in Architectural Studies, in honor of Gary Hennigh, a former faculty member.

Linda Wellons Richichi Award in Environmental Design

Awarded to full-time Architectural Studies students. Applicants must submit a portfolio of work to the Architectural Studies faculty during the spring semester of each year to be considered. Thomas Richichi established the award in memory of his wife.

Carol Ann Roberson Williams/Dr. Kate Ellen Rogers Scholarship

Awarded to full-time junior or senior students in Architectural Studies who exhibit academic achievement and have a demonstrated financial need. Established by Carol Ann Roberson and John Williams, graduates of MU. Mrs. Williams was Dr. Rogers' student.

 

Department of Human Development and Family Studies

Eleanor Blumenthal Graduate Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. Preference shall be given to students preparing for careers in aiding children who have suffered major trauma in their lives.

Lois Bryant Memorial Endowment

This award is for a minority graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Human Development and Family Studies who has demonstrated concern for improving society.  This scholarship was established by the Black Faculty & Staff Organization, friends, and colleagues in memory of Lois Bryant, a former faculty member in Human Development and Family Studies.

Marilyn Coleman Doctoral Fellowship in Human Development and Family Studies

This fund will provide one or more annual fellowship awards to doctoral students in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Human Environmental Sciences who wish to concentrate on the study of families, specifically those interested in studying divorce and remarriage.  The fund will also be used in the recruitment of doctoral students to study in the above referenced area. 

Ruth Cook Scholarship

The Ruth Cook Scholarship was endowed by alumni and friends to honor Ruth Cook, the first chair in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. She gave so much of herself, both professionally and personally to help establish Human Development and Family Studies at MU. Her husband, Robert Cook, was a professor in the School of Business. The scholarship is awarded to a student in Human Development and Family Studies.

Lawrence H. Ganong Graduate Fellowship

The Lawrence H. Ganong Graduate Fellowship is awarded to a graduate student in Human Development and Family Studies who is studying family diversity. The student's career goals should include a commitment to conducting research and/or helping diverse families via education, consultation, and other preventive approaches. Although American families vary in many ways, preference is given to students interested in family structure diversity (e.g. stepfamilies, single parent families) or families of color. Larry and Marilyn Ganong, both professors of Human Development and Family Studies, endowed the fellowship.

Human Development and Family Studies Student Development

Provides for the Marilyn Coleman Outstanding Human Development and Family Studies Graduate Student Scholarship in recognition of Professor Coleman’s outstanding contributions as well as her long time service to the department.

Provides for the Virginia L. Fisher “Gumption” Award to the senior in Human Development and Family Studies who best exemplifies “gumption” during his/her academic career.  Dr. Fisher was the former chair of Human Development and Family Studies.

Virginia Williams Sudduth Scholarship in Human Development and Family Studies

This scholarship will provide awards to sophomore or junior level students enrolled in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies with high scholastic standing and demonstrated financial need.

Elizabeth Vemer Memorial Minority Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate or undergraduate minority student in Human Development and Family Studies.  Mr. Turner L. Vemer established the scholarship in loving memory of his wife.

 

Department of Nutritional Sciences

Grace Frances Berlin Scholarship

The Grace Frances (Smith) Berlin award was established by Dr. Darrel Berlin as a Christmas gift to his wife. The award is given to a junior or senior female student in Nutritional Sciences with a grade point average of 3.400 or above on a 4.000 scale.

Jean Daniel-Gentry Research Award

This award will provide support to outstanding undergraduate students in Nutritional Sciences who is conducting original research as part of the Nutritional Sciences Undergraduate Summer Research Internship program or the Academic Year Research Internship program. Preference will be given to students conducting research directly related to human nutrition, dietetics, and/or exercise physiology.

Isabelle Delaney Memorial Scholarship

This fund provides a scholarship for a junior or senior majoring in Dietetics. Selection is based on financial need and above-average scholarship.  Isabelle Delaney was a Dietetics faculty member.

Ben R. Londeree Award for Outstanding Graduate Student in Exercise Physiology

This award was established in honor of Ben R. Londeree, Ed.D., former associate professor of health and exercise sciences. Dr. Londeree retired from MU after 26 years of service. He was responsible for developing the exercise physiology program and laboratory at MU. He was respected as one of the most outstanding exercise physiology researchers and statisticians in the U.S. The award is given annually to a graduate student in Exercise Physiology who has contributed to research, teaching and service.

James L. McGregor Scholarship in Health and Exercise Sciences

This fund was established by James L. McGregor II in honor of his father. One or more annual awards shall be made to either an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in the College of Human Environmental Sciences' Exercise Physiology Program.

Marita Monroe/Altrusa International, Inc. of Columbia, Mo. Scholarship

Given to a worthy student in Food Science and Human Nutrition, the scholarship was established as a bequest of Marita Monroe through Altrusa International, Inc.  Marita Monroe was an educator in Food Science and Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

Aimee N. Moore Undergraduate Scholarship in Dietetics    

This award goes to a full-time student in Dietetics who is eligible for enrollment in junior-level Dietetics courses the year following the award, has at least a 3.0 GPA and possesses leadership potential.  Family, friends, colleagues and business associates established the scholarship in honor of Professor Aimee Moore upon retirement.

Edward J. O'Brien Scholarship 

Edward J. O'Brien established this scholarship on March 27, 1985. One or more annual awards shall be made to students enrolled in the College of Human Environmental Sciences' Exercise Physiology Program. The recipient(s) will have exhibited leadership and will have made contributions to the Exercise Physiology Program.

Colin J. “Joe” Penner and Ruth Porter Penner Student Enhancement Fund in Dietetics

This scholarship was established in honor of Cynthia Penner Foley’s parents and provides support for students in the Coordinated Dietetics Program in the Department of Nutritional Sciences in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Funds will be awarded to students pursuing the R.D. credential who have already been accepted into the Coordinated Program in Dietetics and could include, but not limited to, students with an interest in community nutrition, fitness, wellness; patient or client education in the areas of prevention and management of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and renal disease. It could also include students interested in working with individuals and families with disabilities and chronic disorders, such as Down Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.

Ross Laboratories: Richard Dowdy Award in Undergraduate Nutritional Sciences Research

Award supports undergraduate students and faculty research in Food Science and Human Nutrition.  The research must have a clear application to the betterment of the human condition and can be of either a basic or applied nature.  A separate application is made with an accompanying research proposal.  Ross Laboratories established the fund in honor of Dr. Dowdy, and to support research in Food Science and Human Nutrition.

Charlene Scanland-Evert Graduate Research Fund in Nutritional Sciences 

This fund was established by Charlene Scanland-Evert, a 1956 graduate of Human Nutrition and Foods, which is now Nutritional Sciences.  Mrs. Scanland-Evert endowed the fund to grant one or more annual awards to qualified candidates in the Nutritional Sciences graduate program in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.  Preference shall be given to graduate students in Nutrition and Immune Response Research or Nutrition and Women’s Health Research.

Maxine Seabaugh Schade Fellowship in Nutritional Sciences

Maxine Seabaugh Schade established this fellowship, which is awarded to outstanding graduate students in Nutritional Sciences in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Sabra Kara Bieri Scofield Award in Medical Dietetics

For a senior Dietetics student who has shown consistent growth over two years in the program, and a sincere and caring spirit for clients and professional potential.  It was established by Mrs. W. Kent Scofield and Steven Scofield, mother and brother of Sabra Scofield who died in a car accident shortly after she graduated in Dietetics.

Mr. and Mrs. John E. Shibley Scholarship Fund

Betty Jo Banister established this scholarship in her estate plan in honor of her parents Mr. and Mrs. John E. Shibley. This scholarship will provide awards to students majoring in nutritional sciences in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

 

Department of Personal Financial Planning

Davidson, Norum and Weagley Undergraduate Scholarship Fund

This fund is in honor of our mother (mother-in-law), a 1979 graduate of the School of Journalism and our father (father-in-law) who could not afford to attend university, as well as each of us, as an alumnus (Weagley, BS, 1974, MS, 1976) and faculty members in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. This fund will provide scholarship awards to Missouri-resident undergraduate students in the Department of Personal Financial Planning or the Department of Textile and Apparel Management, and their successors in the College of Human Environmental Sciences it is to be awarded alternately between the departments.

Jim Deutsch and Smith, Moore & Company Office for Financial Success in Personal Financial Planning

Jim Deutsch and Smith, Moore & Company established this fund to provide support for the Office for Financial Success in the Department of Personal Financial Planning. This fund may support activities and programs in the Office for Financial Success and advance the field of personal financial planning.

Cleo Fitzsimmons Endowment

This endowment provides scholarships, fellowships, and program and faculty enhancements. Cleo Fitzsimmons established the endowment because of her strong commitment to Personal Financial Planning.

Edward Jones/Ray Robbins Scholarship

A $1,000 annual scholarship established to attract Agricultural Economics majors to minor in the Personal Financial Planning department as part of the CFPTM Board Registered degree program.

Margaret I. Liston Personal Financial Planning Endowment

This fellowship is awarded to a student in Personal Financial Planning. It was established by a bequest of Margaret I. Liston. Dr. Liston was a Consumer and Family Economics graduate.

Richard Loeb Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is to provide awards to masters-level and/or Ph.D. students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences Personal Financial Planning program. Recipients must have demonstrated financial need. Priority would be given to students that indicate an interest in a career teaching personal financial planning, either in extension, a university program, a high school, or an adult education venue.

Helen F. McHugh Endowed Fellowship Fund

This scholarship was established to provide awards to graduate students in the Department of Personal Financial Planning in the College of Human Environmental Sciences and the Department of Agricultural Economics in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. The fellowship award is available in either department, but shall be awarded annually to the most deserving candidate from the two programs, as determined by the joint committee described below. The award shall not be granted to students in the same department for more than two consecutive years.

Edward J. Metzen Graduate Student Fellowship in Personal Financial Planning

Awards made to graduate students in Personal Financial Planning who exhibit academic excellence, show potential, and have a demonstrated financial need. The award may be renewed. Edward J. Metzen, Professor and Chair of Personal Financial Planning endowed the fellowship.

Mid-Missouri Estate Planning Council Award

The mid-Missouri Estate Planning Council established an annual $500 award to meritorious undergraduate students in the Personal Financial Planning Department.

Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, The Qualy Group College of Human Environmental Sciences Endowed Fund

This scholarship will provide awards to undergraduate or graduate students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences who are enrolled in the personal financial planning or financial management services degree program, or pursuing a minor in personal financial planning. The selected recipient will exhibit academic merit and good leadership skills. The recipient will be offered, and strongly encouraged to accept, an internship with the firm during the year in which they receive the award.

Office for Financial Success Scholarship

Annual revenues from counseling activities in the Office for Financial Success will be used to provide scholarships to deserving students, both graduate and undergraduate. Priority will be given to scholarship to allow them to attend professional meetings.

Personal Financial Planning Faculty Scholarship

Annual revenues from activities in the Office for Financial Success and other miscellaneous departmental revenue will be used to provide scholarships to deserving students, both graduate and undergraduate. Priority will be given to scholarship to allow them to attend professional meetings.

Sims-McCollom Scholarship Fund in Personal Financial Planning

This scholarship was established to provide annual scholarship awards to a full-time student in the College of Human Environmental Sciences in the Department of Personal Financial Planning. The recipients shall have attained senior standing, or the scholarship may be made to a particularly worthy student entering the junior year. Selected recipients shall be making satisfactory academic progress, possess leadership potential and have a demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to students who are contributing financially while attending college and who are from a rural or farm background in the State of Missouri. If more than one student meets the criteria and the preferences for the scholarship, students with the surname of “Sims” or “McCollom” shall receive the scholarship.

David R. and Suzanne S. Spence Scholarship in Personal Financial Planning

A $1,000 annual scholarship established to attract Finance majors to minor in the Personal Financial Planning department as part of the CFPTM Board Registered degree program.

Louise A. Young Doctoral Fellowship in Personal Financial Planning

This fellowship is awarded to first year Ph.D. students in Personal Financial Planning. Recipients shall be U.S. citizens, exhibit academic excellence, show potential and have a demonstrated need. Louise A. Young, a graduate of Personal Financial Planning, established the fund.

Rintha Mary Carter Social Work Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student majoring in Social Work. It was established by Rintha Mary Carter.

Jennifer Davenport Undergraduate Scholarship

Joseph Davenport established this scholarship in honor of his daughter Jennifer. The awards shall be for undergraduate students in the School of Social Work. Preference shall be given to incoming freshman and or transfer students who have demonstrated financial need and are a Missouri resident.

Dr. Judith A. Davenport Millennium Scholarship in the School of Social Work

Joseph Davenport, III and Jennifer Davenport Kemper established this scholarship in honor of their wife and mother respectively for her eight years of service as the Director of the School of Social Work and for her continuous service to the School. Annual awards shall be made to undergraduate or graduate students in the School of Social Work. The selected recipients shall have an interest in mental health. Consideration will be given to grades, need, community service, extracurricular activities and potential for significant contribution to the field of Social Work.

Judith and Joseph Davenport Scholarship in Rural Social Work

This scholarship is given alternately to graduate and undergraduate students in the School of Social Work with an interest in working in rural areas. Preference is given to students from rural areas, and selection is based on academic achievement.  Drs. Judith and Joseph Davenport established thescholarship.

Bettyann Dubansky Memorial Scholarship Fund

Family and friends established this scholarship in memory of Bettyann Dubansky, a former faculty member of the School of Social Work. This scholarship will provide awards to undergraduate (preference) or graduate (MSW) students in the School of Work with preference given to students with disabilities who are pursuing a Social Work career working with individuals with disabilities.

Jane Bierdeman Fike Doctoral Fellowship in Social Work

Jane Bierdeman Fike, a Social Worker and long time friend of the School of Social Work, endowed this fellowship for awards to graduate students in the School of Social Work. Preference is given to doctoral students whose research focuses on public mental health services for the chronically mentally ill.

Dr. Colleen Galambos Scholarship Fund

Dr. Galambos established this scholarship and shared her vision for the school, which included developing more scholarship opportunities for students. This scholarship will provide assistance to single mothers who are pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in the School of Social Work. This assistance will be provided to help offset the challenges these individuals face and to give recognition for the courage they demonstrate in pursing the dream to have a career focused on advancing social and economic justice for all persons.

Anita L. Hoffman Graduate Fellowship Fund in Social Work

This scholarship will provide fellowship awards to students pursuing a graduate degree in the School of Social Work.

James Douglas Hunter, Jr. Minority Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship was established to provide awards to African American students in the Policy, Planning and Administration graduate concentration within the School of Social Work.

Mariana Paull Johns Fellowship in Social Work

This fellowship is awarded to graduate students in the School of Social Work who have a demonstrated financial need.  Preference shall be given to the non-traditional student.  The fellowship was established by Professor William D. Johns, husband of Mariana Johns, who received her graduate degree from the School of Social Work when she was 62 years old.

Frances Johnson Memorial Scholarship in Social Work

Betty Simon and her son Chris Simon established this scholarship in memory of their mother and grandmother, Frances Shields Johnson. This scholarship will provide awards to graduate students in the School of Social Work, first preference given to non-traditional students interested in working with children who have shown dedication to helping families.

Dr. Joanne Mermelstein and Dr. Michael Kelly Scholarship fo Social Justice in the School of Social Work

This fund will provide awards to students in the School of Social Work.  One or more annual scholarship awards shall be made to students committed to social justice who are pursuing MSW degrees in the School of Social Work.

William Bryan Myers II Memorial Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship is awarded to Social Work graduate students who have demonstrated unusual potential for the field of Social Work both through academic performance and who have demonstrated financial need.  Clara Louise Myers established the scholarship, in loving memory of her son.

Stanley G. and Sondra S. Remer Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established to provide an award to a undergraduate or graduate student in the School of Social Work who is a member of the MU Association of Christian Social Workers (MUACSW), and exemplifies the goals of the North American Association of Christians in Social Work (NACSW) in integrating Christian faith and professional social work.

Dr. Arthur J. Robins Scholarship

This scholarship is sponsored by the Crandell Foundation in honor of Dr. Robins, former director of the School of Social Work. It is intended for an outstanding student in the mental health concentration.

Stemmons Family Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship will provide awards to students in the School of Social Work who are in good standing in the School and who have demonstrated financial need. Grade point average and test scores are not important in the selection process. The intention of the donor is to assist students with the greatest degree of financial need.

Dr. Paul Sundet Scholarship for Policy, Planning and Administration in Social Work

Dr. Paul Sundet, along with friends, family members, and colleagues, established this scholarship to provide awards to graduate students in the School of Social Work. Recipients shall exhibit an interest in pursuing positions within the arena of policy, planning and administration related to social welfare and social services.

Eleanor J. and John W. Watt Scholarship for Social Work

This scholarship was endowed by J. Wilson Watt, a faculty member in the School of Social Work, to honor the memory of his parents. It provides for one or more annual awards to a gay or lesbian student in the doctoral program in the School of Social Work who is interested in conducting research on gay/lesbian issues. If there are no gay or lesbian students in the doctoral program, the award shall be given to a gay or lesbian student in the masters program.

 

Department of Textile and Apparel Management

American Apparel Footwear Association (AAFA) Scholarships

The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) is the national trade association representing apparel, footwear and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers, which compete in the global market. Their mission is to promote and enhance its members' competitiveness, productivity and profitability in the global market by minimizing regulatory, legal, commercial, political and trade restraints. The AAFA has endorsed 13 US programs that meet the required competencies that the organization feels are important for students entering a career in the Sewn Products industry. The MU Department of Textile and Apparel Management has been endorsed since 1990. This endorsement allows scholarship monies to be used for students who are studying in the Product Development or Manufacturing emphasis areas.

This scholarship is given to an undergraduate Architectural Studies or Textile and Apparel Management student who is a Missouri resident with at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.

Karmen Finkemeier and Elizabeth (Liz) Finkemeier Scholarship in Textile and Apparel Management Fund

Larry E. and Beatrice M. Finkemeier established this scholarship in their daughters names in appreciation for the quality of education and the preparation for promising career opportunities their daughters received as students in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management. This scholarship will provide awards to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management. First preference shall be given to students with a demonstrated financial need.

Virgie Keith Gardner Scholarship in Textile and Apparel Management

Dr. Kitty Gardner Dickerson, Professor and Chairman, Department of Textile and Apparel Management, University of Missouri-Columbia, is establishing the undergraduate scholarship to honor her mother, Virgie Keith Gardner. The awards shall be made to undergraduate students in the Department and must be Missouri residents and have a demonstrated financial need as determined by the University of Missouri Office of Student Financial Aid in accordance with previously established guidelines for each need based awards. Preference shall be given to incoming freshman and/or transfer students who have earned an AA two-year prior to enrolling at MU.

Dr. Jean Hamilton Fund for Undergraduate Research

Former students, friends and fellow faculty have established this fund to provide awards to outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management. The award is to assist the student as they conduct research with faculty mentors. The award may be used for, but not limited to, funding the recipients research projects, travel to seminars for presentations, student development, etc.

Kellwood Company Scholarship in Textile and Apparel Management

Given to a junior, senior or graduate student majoring in Textile and Apparel Management, the recipient shall have demonstrated a strong record of academic excellence and indicate a strong career objective in the softgoods industry.

Katie Leonard Scholarship in Textile and Apparel Management

Jack and Cindy Leonard established this scholarship in appreciation for the quality of education and the preparation for promising career opportunities their daughter, Katie Leonard received as a student in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management. This scholarship will provide awards to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in Textile and Apparel Management. First preference shall be given to students who exhibit leadership and involvement in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management, who have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Mike Munie Memorial Scholarship

Given to students majoring in Textile and Apparel Management, the scholarship was established by Michele Fish, a graduate of Textile and Apparel Management, to honor the memory of her brother.

The Maxine Hobbs Patrick and Homer Patrick Graduate Fellowship in Textile and Apparel Management

Mr. Homer Patrick endowed the graduate fellowship in honor of himself and his wife.  The fellowship is awarded to graduate students in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management who are in good standing, who have financial need, and academic excellence.  Preference shall be given to a student who is a graduate of a high school in the State of Missouri.

Natalie Reid/Wheeler Memorial Scholarship

This award is presented to junior, senior or graduate student(s) in Textile and Apparel Management. Recipient(s) must have demonstrated financial need with academic achievement a secondary consideration.  James R. Reid established the scholarship in memory of his wife and niece.

Fisher Ames Rhymes Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to Textile and Apparel Management students.  It was established by family, friends, and colleagues to honor the memory of Mr. Rhymes.

Russell Corporation Scholarship

This scholarship, endowed by the Russell Corporation, is awarded to students majoring in Textile and Apparel Management. Preference is given to undergraduate students who show financial need.

Sharon Stevens Scholarship in Textile and Apparel Management

The Schmidt-Stevens family members, Textile and Apparel Management colleagues and students, HES colleagues, and other friends established this scholarship as a gesture of love on the part of the Schmidt-Stevens family and in appreciation and recognition of Sharon’s dedication to her students and her years of service in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management and College of Human Environmental Sciences. This fund will provide awards to students enrolled in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management in the College of Human Environmental Sciences and that will be contributing to the costs of their education by working part-time to help defray the costs of their education. Recipient must show demonstrated leadership by participating in one or more student clubs or organizations in the college. Preference shall be given to students with a demonstrated financial need and shall carry a grade point average of 2.5 to 3.5.

Textile and Apparel Management Graduate Student Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established by unrestricted gifts from alumni and friends of the Department of Textile and Apparel Management.  This fund will provide awards to graduate students in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, Department of Textile and Apparel Management.  Awards may be granted to current graduate students or to new students entering the graduate program in the department.  Selected recipients shall demonstrate academic excellence and achievement.  Although financial need may be considered, it shall not be the determining factor or given extra consideration in selection of recipients.

YMA Scholarships

MU's TAM Department is one of 23 U.S. programs whose students are eligible to apply for the $5000 YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund awards. Funds for these scholarships are raised from all sectors of the fashion industry to encourage the development of future leaders and talent for the industry. For juniors, who will be entering the senior year. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required to apply. During Fall term, interested students submit a preliminary application; these are pre-screened by a TAM faculty committee. The strongest applicants will be chosen to submit a full application which goes to the YMA Scholars Committee in New York, who will make final selections. This final application needs to be well developed and attractively packaged. Recipients may also receive assistance in finding internships, many of which are in the New York City area. YMA Scholars are invited to and honored at the industry fundraising gala in NYC, at YMA's expense, in early January of their senior year.
