Grants and Contracts
In the period between November 1, 2016 and February 28, 2017, HES and HES Extension faculty and staff were principal investigators or project directors on a total of 40 grant proposals submitted to external funding agencies, totaling $5,618,811. During this same time, HES and HES Extension received 23 grant awards totaling $2,860,350.
Margaret Wilson Mangel Faculty Research Catalyst Fund Awards 2017
This initiative is geared toward supporting the efforts of faculty, especially more recently hired faculty, who are making their first attempts to secure major external research grant funding. Dr. Mangel served as the first Dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences and was a faculty member in nutrition. Congratulations to the 2017 recipients.

Jung Ha-Brookshire Receives Kemper Award
HES Faculty have received numerous honors and awards from national organizations as well as campus awards that recognize them for outstanding teaching, leadership, service and research. The latest award for excellence in teaching was received by Dr. Jung Ha-Brookshire, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Associate Professor in Textile and Apparel Management. Dr. Ha-Brookshire received the prestigious William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence on March 22, 2017. Ha-Brookshire was surprised in her class by a contingency of MU administrators and Commerce Bank members, including Interim Chancellor Hank Foley. Dr. Pam Norum, Professor and Chair of TAM, wrote in the letter of nomination, "Without a doubt, our students absolutely appreciate Dr. Ha-Brookshire as their teacher and mentor. They realize that she brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom, but they also love that she challenges them to go beyond what they think is their potential."
National Awards 2017
Dr. Jo Britt-Rankin, Associate Dean for HES Extension and Program Director, on March 9, 2017, received the inaugural Council of Administrators Family and Consumer Sciences Excellence in Administration Award.
Dr. Mansoo Yu, Associate Professor, School of Social Work in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, is now a member of the 2017 Class of Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR).
The Department of Architectural Studies received the Institutional Merit Award for its Graduate Program at the March 9, 2017 Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) meeting in Chicago, Ill.
