Update on Search for Dean of College of Human Environmental Sciences
Provost Garnett Stokes initiated a search for a new dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences in Fall 2015. The search committee conducted preliminary interviews in February and made recommendations to the provost for narrowing the pool. The next step: Provost Stokes has invited three candidates to interview in person on campus in April.
It is considered a best practice by many search firms to postpone release of candidate names until just before their scheduled visits.
- Candidate 1 – April 11-13, 2016
- Candidate 2 – April 13-15, 2016
- Candidate 3 – April 20-22, 2016
The names of the candidates, as well as their CVs, will be posted on the HES dean search website just before their scheduled visits.
HES Diversity Round Table

On February 4th, 2016, the College of Human Environmental Sciences hosted a diversity round table to address the issues that arose on November 11, 2015 at MU. Over 140 students, faculty, staff and friends attended the event held in Stotler Lounge of the Memorial Union and moderated by Dr. Kathryn Chval, who was recently named Dean of the College of Education.
HES hosted a singular event focusing on identifying strategies for the college to address issues of diversity and inclusivity. "These issues affect all of us—staff, students, and faculty," wrote interim dean, Dr. Sandy Rikoon. The round table discussions were guided by a set of twelve questions. Attendees choice which question they wished to discuss, and moved three times; so, each attendee discussed three questions in total. The comments and suggestions are in a data base for analysis.
Easel comments assembled at each table are displayed in the main corridor of Gwynn Hall and those who didn’t attend or who wanted to make additional comments were invited to do so.
Mission: The College of Human Environmental Sciences addresses human needs and enhances individual and family life in a diverse and global society by conducting advanced research, preparing professionals and providing outreach.
