ON RESEARCH -- Deanna L. Sharpe, Autism Spectrum
Disorder -- by Teresa L.
Howard
Across
the United States researchers are exploring autism spectrum disorder
(ASD) that affects as many as one in 166 individuals, according to the
Centers for Disease
Control. Along with trying to identify the cause and effective
treatments for ASD, researchers are also exploring the social and
financial effects of the disorder.
Researcher Deanna L. Sharpe, whose recent paper,
“Financial problems associated with having a child with autism: How
financial advisors can help,” won the Association for Financial
Counseling and Planning Education outstanding conference paper award
(co-authored by Dana Baker). The article appears in the 2007
