School of Social Work Additional Program Space
The School of Social Work will renovate the former student health center to attract more students to the program, meet urgent needs for space, and foster collaboration with other schools and colleges across campus. Renovation of four floors will include construction of a clinical skills lab, a student research center, seminar rooms and a computer/video lab. The school estimates the cost to renovate its future home in the heart of campus to be $5 million.
Historic Costume and Textile Collection
One of the hidden gems on campus, the Historic Costume and Textile
Collection, is crowded into two small rooms in Stanley Hall. A plan to move to 13 Gwynn Hall will provide more space, visibility and accessibility for the 5,500 items in the collection. It also will feature a display window to showcase rare and interesting textiles. A gift of $100,000 will ensure a proper home for this rich resource.
Nutrition and Fitness Center
The Obesity Initiative through the Department of Nutritional Science/
Exercise Physiology seeks $500,000 to match University funds to name the Nutrition and Fitness Center in the old McKee Gymnasium. About 100 participants use the gym to learn proper nutrition and exercises to address obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular and other diseases related to a sedentary lifestyle.
Child Development Laboratory
An expanded Child Development Laboratory combined with the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment Disorders will become the Child and Family Sciences Institute. The new institute will include shared facilities such as a library, research technology room, art studios, playgrounds, outdoor classroom and other resources. The cost for this ground-breaking research and service facility is estimated at $40 million.
