When it came to their daughter¹s college education, Jack and Cindy Leonard
expected nothing less from MU than dedicated professors and rigorous
instruction, but Katie Leonard's experience as a student in the Department
of Textiles and Apparel Management managed to exceed even their high
standards.
By the time she graduated in May 2005 with a bachelor's degree in
human environmental sciences, Katie had made numerous business contacts
through the department's advisory board and career fair, studied fashion in
London and Paris, and landed a summer internship with Prada. Now preparing
to start work as a buyer for Dillard's, Katie raves about the department's
outstanding professors and the many opportunities they made available for
her and her classmates.
"I could not have asked for better mentors, teachers and friends,"
she says.
Proud of their daughter and impressed by the department in which
she had studied, Jack and Cindy Leonard resolved to honor both by endowing a
scholarship in Katie's name in the Department of Textiles and Apparel
Management.
“We are basically an average family who has had the opportunity to
support our children's high schools here in St. Louis,” Cindy Leonard says.
“We decided this (supporting Mizzou) would be doable for us over a five-year
period.”
For her part, Katie was surprised and touched when textile and
apparel management Chair Kitty Dickerson announced the Leonards' gift at
graduation. Cindy Leonard says the scholarship will benefit not only the
students who receive it but also the Leonards themselves: “Knowing that
Katie's name is attached to a scholarship in the department that she has so
loved will be a continued source of happiness and pride for us and for
Katie.” |
