Focus
on Research -- Sandy
Rikoon
Dean Jorgensen is pleased to announce that Dr. Sandy
Rikoon
(pictured left) accepted the position of Associate Dean
for Research
and Graduate Studies. Dr. Rikoon splits his time
as research dean
and as Curators Distinguished Professor of Rural
Sociology. He
comes to HES with 20 years of success in scholarship
and research,
including numerous awards for teaching and research
and multiple
grants from the National Science Foundation, U.S.
Department of
Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, and other
federal and state agencies. His research interests focus on the
social and cultural dimensions of environmental protection and
conflicts in the United States and Eastern Europe.
Dr. Rikoon has served on graduate student committees
in three HES departments and he currently collaborates on hunger and
nutrition research with Dr. Nikki Raedeke in Nutrition and
Exercise Physiology. He is committed to the college's mission of
making a difference in the lives of individuals, families and
communities in our state, nation and world.
"I like to focus my research at the
intersections of basic and applied work. Often this means leaning at
times more toward the lab or the field, but ultimately the goal is to
produce under-standings that improve the quality of life locally and
globally," said Dr. Rikoon. He strongly believes in seamless
connections between research, training and Extension, and he looks
forward to supporting the research and graduate education efforts of
everyone in the College.
Dr. Rikoon (or Sandy, as he likes to be called) welcomes
all faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the college to
visit with him at any time in his office in Gwynn 114 or to email him
at RikoonSandy@missouri.edu
to discuss any issues related to research and graduate education in
HES.
